Campeonato Pernambucano: Organised since 1915, it revolves around Recife's big three: Sport, the record champions, Santa Cruz and Náutico, whose derbies draw large crowds. Náutico left their mark with six straight titles between 1963 and 1968, while clubs from outside the capital, such as Central of Caruaru, Salgueiro and Retrô, appear as alternative forces. It is one of the Northeast's most balanced state championships in terms of rivalry between the big clubs.
